Hippy Tree Clothing
What is Hippy Tree clothing?
The company is a surf and climbing brand found at local surf shops and specialty retailers. The company is a eco-conscious brand that designs, manufactures and distributes t-shirts, hats, board shorts, hoodies, and more. From clothing to an insanely creative calender, this company is a great example of a surf brand that real surf shops should have. They feature environmentally friendly shirts and have been doing it before the surf industry jumped on the bandwagon. The shirts are super soft and comfy. They are mostly 100% organic cotton and have a great tapered fit. The hats and beanies have nice quality finishes and details. Our favorite thing about their clothes is the cool, unique, and creative designs. Wearing clothes from hippy tree will surely make you feel special!
History of Hippy TreeThe brand was founded officially in 2003 by Andrew Sarnecki. Andrew was a surfer/artist living in the South Bay, a tight knit beach community just north of Orange County and south of Los Angeles. Andrew was often called hippy, sporting dread locks down to his waist. A passionate surf photographer and graffiti artist, Andrew decided to design, print, and distribute "South Bay". "South Bay" was a free mini surf magazine for friends and local surf shops. Andrew later made calendars under the name Hippy Tree, born in his Hermosa Beach bedroom which is a stones throw from the ocean.
Hippy Tree News and UpdatesIn recent time, the brand has been able to grow and prosper given the current economic climate. This is in part due to the Sales and Marketing director, Josh Sweeney. Andrew and Josh have been able to sustain steady growth in this struggling economy. Their formula of slow and steady, organic growth is a great lesson to grassroots and big companies alike. Business's may find that their specialty way of thinking can pay off in the long run. Tiffany Montgomery of Shop-Eat-Surf recently wrote a great article on the clothing company: Hippy Tree Interview. We at Crux were fortunate to meet Josh and Andrew while working at Harbour Surfboards. The clothing gets better and better and we have seen the brands progression through the years. We look forward to seeing their little green tree logo grow into a internationally recognizable brand.
