Hawaiian Island Creations History

Stephan and Jimmy Tsukayama opened Kailua Bike Shop in 1971. The brothers decided appeal to the tourist industry and clothing for "Hawaiian Island Creations" was created in 1972. The brothers comissioned Paul Ichimura to create the iconic HIC logo. 1974 marked the relocation to the present Kailua store on Hahani Street.

Hawaiian Island Creations aka "HIC", had a reputation of warm and friendly personal customer service. Because of their superior service the management of Ala Moana Center to invite HIC to open a bike and surf shop. In the summer of 1980 the HIC flagship store was opened as Hawaiian Island Sports, were clothing and other HIC goods could be purchased. In 1985, Hawaiian Island Creations Bike and Surf opened in the Pearlridge Shopping Center.

Hawaiian Island Creations continues to be an authentic and core surf brand in the real surfing community. You can still find their clothing with the iconic HIC logo all over the islands and mainland. We love them because you will still not find their clothes at JC Penny or Costco.
